Do you have a yard that needs the help of a Calgary landscaping professional?
Landscaping in Calgary has become quite the profession these days as there are many ways to go about hiring a Calgary Landscape Company.
When engaging in any project, the first thing you want to start with is with a landscape design. It is the map you will follow throughout your project. If you don’t have a solid plan, it is easy to mess up.
Even if you just want a singular patio or a big tree, it is a really good idea to talk to a professional and get a good scope of what you are doing. Planting a big tree only to realize it is in the wrong spot is not fun. Same goes for that patio you spent months building after work..You want it to tie in to your surrounding landscape and be built to last. In Calgary, the spring rains are usually a good test of stability.
Being in the industry in Calgary, Alberta for quite a while now, I have found that people who really value the landscaping in their yards are spending close to 20% of the value of their Calgary homes on Landscaping.
This is a good figure for a Landscaping budget if you want a yard that has some artistic touch to it. By all means many people don’t spend anywhere near this on their landscaping in Calgary, but they end up with pretty simple yards.
Obviously, I am biased because I have been building Calgary Landscapes for almost 10 years now. I value artistic and structural integrity in the backyard Landscape.
Here is a breakdown of the process when landsacping your Calgary home
1) Planning and dreaming: This part of the Landscaping process includes taking walks around your local Calgary neighborhood or other areas to find out what you like. From my experience the best places to do this are in Mount Royal, Elbow Valley and Discover Ridge.
There are a lot of higher end homes in these parts of Calgary and you can really see what is possible in Calgary.
Next, buy some books and look at things to get more landscaping ideas. The only problem with books is that not all materials and methods will work for Landscaping in the Calgary area.
2) Locate a Calgary Landscape Design specialist.
Most Landscaping companies provide this service as part of the package. The best designers charge around $1500 for a hand crafted design. Many are way cheaper, you do pay for what you get.
If you do go with a Calgary Landscaping company, most times the company will work out a deal with the design if you go ahead with their company for the work.
3) Find a local Calgary Landscaper / do the work yourself
Building a yard on your own can be extremely rewarding. They key is to make sure you use the right tools. Machinery for excavation of patio and retaining walls is a must if you want a stable sub base. Nothing is more important than creating a solid foundation for whatever you build.
Most Calgary Landscapers will do the entire project for you. The key is to find the right person for the job. The best thing is to ask to see a portfolio and look at references to find somebody that is good. Once again, I stress that you pay for exactly what you get.
Landscaping your Calgary yard is not something that you want to do twice.
4) Completion! Make sure you grab a couple of cold one’s from the fridge and indulge in your brand new yard.
